Your Guardian Angel And Your Akashic Record

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Gaynor Peck You may have heard of the Akashic Records in connection witb the famous clairvoyant, Edgar Cayce. He was said to have drawn on the Akashic Records when making remarkably accurate predictions for the future. He also used them to cure disease, by entering into a trance and describing the condition of the sick person, as if he could see right into their body. Angels are involved in the Akashic Records on two levels. Our personal guardian angel records our thoughts and deeds, keeping our personal Akashic Record updated. And the angels that oversee the Akashic Records are called the Lords of Karma. We’ve all heard of karma. Essentially, it means: “As ye sow, so shall ye reap”. Many people believe there exists a store of all the information accumulated by mankind, since their creation. This is because energy cannot be destroyed — but simply transformed into a different form. Many scientists, includling Carl Jung believed it is possible to connect with this vast storehouse of thoughts and knowledge and this forms the source of all inspiration. Many creative people, such as Mozart and Shakespeare, are said to have been able to tap directly into this source. That would explain why Shakespeare, a writer from a rural backwater, seemed to know so much detail about kings and the way of their courts. The writer, Coleridge was hard at work writing his amazing work “Kublah Khan”, when a knock at his cottage door somehow broke the connection and the rest of his creation was lost. And Thomas Alva Edison, inventor of the light bulb and the gramophone, also spoke of ideas coming out of thin air. It is also believed every thought and deed that every human has ever had is recorded on what they call the Book Of Life or the Akashic Records. Think of this as a giant database of human life - far larger than the database in the biggest supercomputer in the world. The word “Akasha” is Sanskrit for “boundless space”, but the concept of such a record existing embraces many cultures and religions. Mention of them appears in both testaments of the Bible, as well as in the folklore of the Arabs, the Assyrians, The Babylonians, the Hebrews and the Phoenicians. The Stuff You’re Stepping In Could Be Your Silver Lining

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Don Doman In 1859, miners around Mt. Davidson, Nevada were panningand slucing 18 hours a day for enough gold to pay forgrub and drinks. They were hampered in their mining byblue clay. The blue stuff clogged their equipment, interferred with their efforts and made mining forgold darn near impossible. Finally, one man had the dreaded, awful, ugly, bluestuff assayed. To his surprise the results estimatedthe blue stuff’s worth at $3,000 a ton! The blue claywas extremely rich silver ore. News spread fast and speculators headed to Nevada. Oneminer didn’t get the news soon enough. He sold hisclaim for $450 and ran through the streets laughingand proclaiming that he had tricked the Californians. He ended out his career as a peanut vendor. The person who bought his claim became one of thewealthiest men in the world. It’s too bad that the poor goober hadn’t heard ofmarket research. If he had thought about hiscomplaints, done some brainstorming, searched forproduct information, or even just conducted a simplesurvey — he may have seen other options andopporunities. Had he done just the tiniest bit ofmarket research, he might have owned the richestsilver deposit on Earth instead of settling forpeanuts. Market research can be done simply and effectively andthe results can save money and effort. Almost anyonecan conduct their own research projects . . . and find a silver lining. Pond Liners: 7 Reasons Why I Don’t Use Them

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Douglas Hoover 1. Liners will eventually leak. Manufacturers have varying warranties, ranging from 15 to 30 years, with a 75-year life expectancy. In reality, it will definitely last as long as the guarantee claims as long as you leave it in the box, and store it in your garage. Once you place it in the ground, natures forces begin a contest to see which will break its water-tight integrity first. Vying for the title of culprit are gophers, ground squirrels, chipmunks, rats, moles, roots from trees, plants and weeds, sharp rocks, heavy rocks, sharp objects, and moose (if you live in Alaska). If a leak does develop, it is next to impossible to locate it without removing all the rocks covering the liner, draining the pond, spreading the liner out on the ground, and inspecting every square inch. A tiny pin hole can lose five gallons every 24 hours. 2. Bottom drains cannot be utilized with liners. Liner advocates discount the use of bottom drains primarily because they would rather not, since approximately one half the sources for leaks in liner ponds are from bottom drains. When the liner is cut to install the drain, sealants are used along with pressure rings to make a water-tight seal. The sealants dry out or break down and seal collars warp, resulting in time-consuming, costly repair. 3. You cannot use out-of-pond pumps. Since liner advocates dont use bottom drains, they cant use above-ground pumps, which leave no other choice but to use sump pumps. These pumps were originally designed to pump water from sump pits in basements and cellars. They are not designed to save energy; in fact, they are the greatest consumers of energy per horsepower of all pumps. The largest retailer/wholesaler of liners, pumps and accessories sells a sump pump which produces 4200 gallons per hour at 704 watts for $339.00. This pump needs to be pulled from the pond to clean debris from its intake screen. It is a potential shock hazard to fish and humans and is filled with oil, which has the potential of leaking out and covering the surface of the pond. In contrast, an above-ground pump that supplies 600 gallons more per hour (4,800) for less than half the energy cost (348 watts) and costs over $100 less. Running this pump 24 hours per day will result in a savings of over $500 per year over the sump pump. In other words, the energy savings would pay for the above-ground pump and put an additional $270 cash in your pocket the first year alone. If that isnt enough incentive, a second reason to use the above-ground pump is that there is never a need to worry about it clogging since we install two 8″ anti-vortex drains on the bottom. The only maintenance required is to occasionally remove the lid from the leaf basket on the pump and dump the debris from the catch basket. Because this is a high-efficiency pump, it is extremely quiet, and standing right next to it you can barely hear it running. With liner ponds the sump pump is located at the outside edge of the pond, not in the middle as in professional concrete and rebar constructions. We place two 8″ anti-vortex drains in the middle of the pond, 24″ apart. As fish waste and other suspended particles and algae spores settle to the bottom, they are drawn into the drains and taken out by the filter. An ultraviolet light is placed in series between the filter and pond return in order to kill pathogenic bacteria which can cause disease and turn the pond green. In deeper ponds that use liners, all the waste material settles and collects on the bottom and rots, creating ammonia that is toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Because a sump pump is located near the outer edge of the pond and not in the middle on the bottom, maximum efficient circulation cannot be reached. This creates toxic cloudy areas in the ponds bottom. Most liner ponds Ive seen are only 24″ deep, and circulation is not an issue in these cases. However, koi fish are not recommended in these kinds of ponds; koi experts recommend a depth of at least 3 feet. 4. You cannot use a high pressure maintenance free biofilter with a liner pond. When using a sump pump, you have to use a gravity feed bio-falls, down-flow or upflow filter. All of these are inefficient and result in high maintenance costs. They need to be cleaned often by removing all the waste-laden filter media. To say the least, this is a filthy, stinky, messy job which neither my female clients nor most of my male clients expect to perform. Aqua Ultraviolets high pressure filter contains state-of-the-art technology enabling it to simply be back washed with a turn of the handle. The discharge hose can direct the fish waste and particulate debris down the drain, or it can be used to water the garden or lawn. The high pressure filter is designed to handle five to ten times the volume of water that a gravity flow unit or bio-falls can handle. In addition to all this, the patented bead design of this filter allows for maximum surface area in which nitrifying bacteria can live and break down nitrites. The Liner Guy wants you to use his messy, dirty, stinky inefficient filter because it is his filter, and it costs very little to manufacture compared to the professional bead filter. My opinions about filters come from many years of experience, and trying nearly every one that is on the market. I even jumped on the filter bandwagon for a couple of years and used my own design. Why? Because of the unbelievable profit margin! When I discovered the Aqua Ultraviolet filter advertised in several pond magazines, I gave it a try. Ive been using it for over ten years with no problems whatsoever. My clients clean the filter with the turn of a handle and stay clean themselves. A great side benefit to this filter is that you can have twice the number of fish in your pond than when using the inefficient gravity filters. By the way, this is not a paid endorsement of their product! 5. Safety is a concern when pond liners are used. After a hole is dug, a pond liner is placed in the hole and then its filled with water. Rocks are then placed around the perimeter of the pond to cover up the edge of the pond liner, and more rocks are piled up on a mound of dirt covered with another liner to create a waterfall. From my 26 years of experience, Ive learned that many adults are just like kids when it comes to ponds and waterfalls. They inevitably climb on the rocks of the waterfall and the ponds edge. Since the rocks are all loose, they can move, tilt or shift on the pond liner, resulting in someone falling and getting hurt or, worse, drowning. With professional concrete and rebar construction, all the rocks are cemented in place, providing a secure foundation to walk or climb on. 6. Pond liners limit pond shape and configuration. Why are most liner ponds circular or oval in design? Because pond liners are dispensed on rolls and therefore available only in square or rectangular shapes. If an L-shaped pond was designed, you would need to bunch up an inordinate amount of pond liner into the inside corner. Not only is it wasting expensive square feet of pond liner material, it makes it difficult to stack rocks on top of the bunched up liner so as to cover it up. Oh sure, Liner Guy youre thinking, why doesnt he mention that special shaped pond liners can be custom made? Okay, Ill mention it! Custom pond liners can be made to order. And now Ill mention that this customized pond liner is going to cost you as much as constructing a professional pond with rebar and concrete that will last a lifetime. There, I mentioned it! 7. Last but not least, Integrity. When I read articles written by the Liner Guys disciples, bragging about the ungodly profits derived from pond liner construction, I cant help but wonder how they sleep at night. The profit derived from one days work — digging a hole, dropping in a pond liner, covering its surface and perimeter with loose rock, and plugging in an energy-sucking sump pump — equals what I made in four or five days of labor. One big difference: their warranty is one year, if youre lucky; but one built with concrete and steel is for a lifetime! Im the person that the past customers of the Liner Guy called two or three years down the road, asking me to fix the leak in their stinky green liner pond. A client in Poway, California paid $6,500 for a liner pond with a necklace of rock around the perimeter and a 3 x 4 foot fiberglass waterfall at its edge. I actually had to suppress a laugh when I saw it out of respect for my clients grief. This pond had a bottom drain that leaked; however, the major loss of water stemmed from a tree root puncture. In addition, it was obvious that this Liner Guy disciple did not have his customers long term financial well being in mind after I discovered a cheap, 7- amp energy-sucking Jacuzzi pump. We replaced it with a 3.6 amp high-efficiency pump that supplied nearly twice the flow. Next, we pulled out the liner, reconfigured the ponds oval shape to serpentine, and constructed the pond and waterfall shell using rebar (8″ on center) and 3500 psi concrete with stealth fiber added. We installed two 8″ bottom drains, added a professional skimmer, a Venturi air supply valve, a natural rock waterfall, a turtle island that supported a 25 foot bridge spanning the pond, an Ultima II high pressure, back-washable filter, ultraviolet light, lighting in the pond and waterfall. plus an electronic AquaFill pond water leveler. All this took us eight days from start to finish and cost only $2,000 more than the client originally paid. In Conclusion: Is it any wonder why I despise the get rich quick scheme of pond liner construction? The liner guy hates hearing me refer to concrete and rebar ponds as professional construction. They insist their liner ponds are professional construction. And if so, why do they sell the very same kits to do-it-yourself homeowners as to the construction business people for hire? I am proud to claim over 1,900 satisfied customers over 26 years. Ninety-five percent of my clientele comes from referrals by satisfied customers. I dont have to wonder why that is so. Is there a place for liner ponds? Yes, if youre renting and expect to move in two or three years. Or if youre setting up a temporary display. No, Im not totally against liners. Theyre great for truck beds and cheap swimming pools! Actually, I have made thousands of dollars over the years from pond liners by replacing them with concrete and steel! An ounce of prevention is worth a [pond] cure. Happy koi, peace and joy. By Douglas C. Solar Residential Outdoor Lighting is Becoming the Product of Choice for Millions of Consumers

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Kavar Peter Residential outdoor lighting is a billion dollar a year industry in the United States. It is getting so popular, there is now a corporation that franchises individual businesses dealing only in exterior landscape lighting design, supply, and installation! Line voltage systems used to be the only option for outdoor lighting but in recent years, low voltage lighting systems and solar powered lights have made exterior decorative lighting available to every home owner not just the rich ones. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 67% of adult Americans are homeowners (2004 statistics). Renovation, remodeling and home improvement are massively popular activities that only reflect the priority that consumers give in making their property as comfortable and pleasing as possible. Gardening has always been a past time homeowners enjoy in beautifying their property, both for themselves and to raise the curb appeal, but up until a decade ago, beautifying the nightscape was not a mainstream idea. Hotels, resorts and similar type commercial properties have always used light to create beautiful atmospheres on their grounds, but given the cost of an outdoor lighting system, residential lighting applications were mostly limited to basic security needs. Landscapes were enjoyed during daylight hours but when the sun went down, the outdoor portion of a homeowners property was not used. Low Voltage outdoor lighting systems Low voltage lighting systems and solar powered lights are changing this. A low voltage lighting system plugs into a transformer and takes household current down to 12 volts. This means real energy efficiency and eliminates the building code requirements for burying cables 18 inches for line voltage systems. The lights can be used for any outdoor lighting application, although they still need to be wired together. Trenching and some cable burying will also probably be required. Additionally, the capacity of the transformer must besufficient to cover the combined power draw (watts) of every light in the system. The Solar landscape lighting option Solar powered lights are not wired to anything and require no transformers. Installing them is as easy as sticking them in the ground, or mounting them wherever you need them. The draw back is that the photovoltaic charging panels (usually mounted on the top of the light fixture) that capture the suns energy need direct sunlight during the day to charge the batteries that provide power to illuminate the light at night. And in higher latitudes where the period of darkness is longer in winter months, there is a good chance that the lights will not get enough sun during the day to be able to illuminate for the entire period of darkness. Even so, solar powered landscaping lights are becoming extremely popular although this was not always the case. Up until two or three years ago, solar lights were not as bright as many consumers wanted, didnt illuminate for long periods and too often, did not operate longer than a year or two before becoming defective. Today however, solar lights are bright enough for almost any outdoor application, will illuminate for the entire night and provided you get quality models will last 20 years without maintenance or defect. These dramatic increases in solar outdoor lighting reliability are due to recent advances in two areas of technology: photovoltaic cells and the introduction of the Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulb. The photovoltaic cell is the technology that captures the suns energy. In the 1980s, these cells could absorb only about 5% of the sunlight they were exposed to. Today this figure is moving past 15% and as further development of the compounds used in these cells continues (they are now silicon based but other compounds are being studied) they will only get more efficient. Perhaps even more exciting has been the introduction of the solid state LED bulb. This technology involves manipulating electrons and moving them in a certain direction so that photons are produced. This creation of photons is the visible light. Unlike the traditional incandescent bulb, there is no excited gas, no burning filament, and therefore next to no heat production. Almost all of the energy produced is used as light. The bulbs last for 10,000 hours, require no maintenance and draw on average only three to five watts. Todays solar lights are excellent value One of the biggest critiques of solar lights in the past has been the intensity of brightness they produce. This was a fair comment, but todays solar lights are much brighter. Many mistake the term watt as a measure of brightness, which of course, it is not. A watt is the measurement of the power required to operate something. If talking about only one type of light bulb, then there is a relationship; a 40w incandescent bulb will not be asbright as a 60w bulb. But when dealing with different technologies, this comparison is not fair. Indeed, one LED bulb drawing between three and five watts will produce the same brightness as a 40w bulb. And many solar lights are now manufactured with multiple LEDs, therefore producing light much brighter than the glow of a traditional 40w incandescent product. More and more consumers are realizing that outdoor accent lighting really does have an enormous effect in creating a beautiful nightscape environment. Some prefer a low voltage lighting system because they will illuminate for the entire period of darkness and are reliable and energy efficient. Other consumers prefer the solar outdoor lighting solution because these lights are now just as reliable, are far easier to install and can be moved around at whim when trying different effects. There is also a satisfaction in getting free energy from the sun! But whatever the choice, there is no denying that residential outdoor lighting systems are becoming a standard feature on millions of properties. Kavar Peter is a successful freelance writer with a strong interest in renewable energy issues. He writes regularly about solar powered products including garden lighting and pathway lighting solutions. Aromatherapy To The Rescue!

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Olena Gill Happy Holidays! Yes, the holiday season is upon us now in all ways - Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and more. And celebrating takes on a life of its very own it seems. From high-tech parties to small intimate gatherings, in the aftermath, we are faced with recovering from hangovers, feeling of being overstuffed, headaches, weight gain, etc.. “Never again,” we say, resolving to change our so-called bad habits especially during our New Years resolutions, often not succeeding for more than a couple of months at most. There are however, many things one can do to help alleviate the after-effects of partying and indulging, both physical and emotional. Aromas establish and enhance the occasions and alter the mood of your surroundings during party time as well as after. By choosing and blending aromatherapy essential oils and adding it your surroundings, you can easily change the effect from the “‘twistin and rockin’ the night away” to relaxed, mellow and happy. Here are some oil choices that I would suggest, in combination or singly in an aromatherapy burner, light bulb or ring: geranium, jasmine, sweet orange, clary-sage, rose, bergamot, frankincense, vanilla, ylang ylang, sandalwood, and lavender. It’s a known fact that we do tend to over-indulge during the holidays. Sometimes however, rich and sweet food, alcohol, and other combinations of food that we are offered, tend to take their toll. Too much alcohol consumption can be counteracted to some degree by drinking plenty of water beforehand, which slows down alcohol absorption and helps flush out toxins. Here is a gentle recipe for the “morning-after” to assist your body to return to normal: 5 drops Fennel, 3 drops Lavender, 5 drops Sandalwood, 10 drops Lemon. Blend and use 8-10 drops in a bath, inhale 4-6 drops on a tissue, or rub 2-3 drops around your liver area and on the back of your neck. Drink lots of water. To facilitate digestion after the onslaught of rich and sweet foods you can choose from the following essential oils: lemon, mandarin, peppermint, dill, spearmint, ginger, coriander. Slice small pieces of raw ginger into a cup of boiling water and drink - this will help alleviate nausea and general abdominal discomfort. You can also mix 1-2 drops of your chosen essential oil with 1 teaspoon honey, mix with hot water and drink. On the non-physical side of things, holidays and the turning of the new year especially, can also be an emotional challenge - depression, anxiety, apathy, boredom, loneliness, and frustration and prevalent for many. One of the great advantages of essential oils is that they not only assist in detoxifying the body, but also help a person to feel and think positively. Even as something simple as feeling guilty for overindulging during the holidays and not being able to stick to your New Years resolutions can have long-lasting effects. Essential oils can bring down aggression, reduce tension and anxiety, soothe the nerves and help us cope with the myriad of feelings that are produced. One of my favorite recipes to deal with body tension and anxiety includes 10 drops of geranium, 5 drops of lavender, and 15 drops of bergamot. These can be blended together along with 30 ml of your favorite massage oil. Use as a massage oil, in a bath or in a diffuser. Although aromatherapy oils are by no means cures for any of these situations, Mother Nature’s little helpmates certainly can alleviate some of these symptoms and problems. So in the spirit of the New Year, be kind to yourself and may good wishes and smells abound. Market Research - How Good is the Data?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By Martin Day “Make money for taking surveys”,” Cash for your opinion”, “Make easy money at home”. Everywhere you look there is a company willing to pay people to participate in their surveys. It seems like a win win situation, the participants get paid for providing their opinion, the market research company gets paid for conducting the research and the companies, that fund the research, gathers valuable data. But, how valuable is that data? Well run surveys are still vital to those companies who wish to research a market and obtain feedback on particular products or services. Many people are willing to express an opinion, and a small incentive like a chance to win a prize or a small payment is often all that is required to encourage people to give up their time and participate. For years market research companies have assembled groups of participants into survey pools or survey panels, groups of people willing to provide an opinion on a range of subjects. Often incentives of nominal value were offered as a ‘thank you’ for the participant’s time; however the explosion of ‘paid for taking surveys’ websites has spawned a new profession - the professional survey participant (PSP). For companies that are relying on market research generated by panels of PSP’s the question they must ask is how flawed is the data that they are relying on? Does the average PSP represent a cross section of society or a niche? What social group do they really belong to and is it smart for a company to base research on groups of people that are willing to comment part time, and sometimes, full time, on anything and everything? Not all panels should be tarnished with a negative brush after all customer and employee surveys to name just two rely on a survey pool. However, customers and employees are to some degree stakeholders in a company’s research, by participating customers will benefit from better products and services, employees will be able to voice concerns and help make improvements to working conditions and methods, more importantly the views of the customer and the employee are valuable. Likewise panels that are made up of hand picked participants chosen for their knowledge, expertise and experience are equally valid and in some cases a necessity. The panels that should be questioned are those that are assembled by surveys that rely on large volumes of the general public whose motivation for participating is only the reward they will receive, they will often have no knowledge, understanding or interest as to the ‘who’, ‘why’ or ‘what’ of the research that is being carried out. Research companies that attract either part-time or full time PSP’s rarely make any reference about the importance of the research they conduct but instead concentrate on offers of easy money and extra income. Some survey methods will be more vulnerable than others, the most vulnerable perhaps being the online surveys itself. Company’s that use PSP research data have to ask themselves how many surveys would it take for each PSP to realise that the more surveys they take the more cash or other incentives they receive. Will they after completing three or four surveys even think about the question or just click on any random response? Although telephone surveys and focus groups will be less prone to the problem of people responding in a random or unconsidered manner with each telephone survey they take, and focus group they attend, they are becoming less like a member of the general public and more like a professional respondent. A survey can have many purposes and not all surveys are conducted with a view to being impartial and fair. Like a tobacco company that funds research into the effects of nicotine, the findings can be manipulated to reinforce a particular line of argument. Panels and PSP’s have their place but if a company is relying on good and accurate market research data beware the survey panel! Anniversary Gift Advice

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Ross Bainbridge When people celebrate their wedding anniversaries, it has become tradition that the couple give gifts to each other as a means of showing how they still care for each other as time goes by in their life together. For most people, they usually go to stores to buy the gifts for their partners. For men, the most common place to go to get a gift is the jewelry store. Women usually go to a sporting store to buy their gifts. Although buying gifts in these places is a very good idea, there are other options. Making gifts give more personalized touch, which can make the gift even more valuable. Some of these options include making the gift or personalizing ordinary gift items. Some Gift Options To make gifts more personal, one of the best ways to go about it is to make it yourself. One of the best ways to do so is to make a scrapbook that would chronicle the different milestones in your marriage, including your wedding day, your honeymoon, the birth of your child, and other important events. As for personalizing ordinary gift items, one option is to take a picture of the two of you and have it framed and put your message on the picture. Another good idea is to have personalized artwork done on glass or on canvas, depicting the two of you. All of these gift ideas show how much you care about your spouse and will surely be appreciated by your spouse because giving these kinds of gifts mean that you put in a lot of time, effort, and thought into the gift. Apart from the dictates of tradition, giving gifts on wedding anniversaries also serves the purpose of providing couples a chance to give tokens of their feeling for each other through their gifts to each other. The good news is that couples have a number of options as to the gift that they would give, including very personalized gifts that can show how much they value each other.
